Leeman He was educated in the Madison School system and graduated from Madison High School He was the husband of Shirley Jackson Leeman and a long time resident of Anson He enjoyed woodworking but loved his family the most and loved watching them grow He was a member of the West Mills Presbyterian Church Along with his wife of Anson he is survived by daugh ters Carol Leeman Phillips of Industry and Diane Lecman of Anson sons Steven Leeman and his wife Katharine of Anson and Richard Leeman and his wife Jamie of Anson grandsons Nathaniel Phillips of Industry and Joshua Leeman and Chad A Leeman station in Oakland At one time he was a part time police officer for the Oakland Police Department and full time for the Augusta Police Department or the last 30 years he was self employed operating Garage in Oakland He was a member of the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge A AM for more than 25 years He taught auto mechanics at Messalonskee Adult Education in Oakland Surviving are his mother of Oakland chase through city streets Wednesday night Marisa Benoit 41 finally came to a stop shortly after 6 pm at the police station parking lot where she was arrested for failure to stop for a police officer Sgt Michael Benecke said Benoit was being detained while police tried to ques tion family members She did not appear to have been drinking Benecke said do our best to get the best information we can so we can make the most educated decision we said Benecke leaning against sending her to ire Continued from 9 any he said Arson is not suspected he added Neither the Menys nor their two children were home at the time the fire broke out sometime between 1:30 pm and 2 pm Merry who runs a sawmill busi ness near his home said he had dri ven a skidder down the hill in back of the house to bring in a log On his way back he saw the smoke I got out the whole front side of the home was Merry said have been gone more than a half an The fire was first spotted by Ray Morrow the deputy chief of the Kennebec County Jail Three cruisers surrounded vehicle as it stopped Benecke said officer John Weeks had first noticed a car being driven about 15 mph on North Street and tried to pull it over to see if the driver was intoxi cated The car continued on and Benoit refused to stop while Weeks fol lowed her to Main Street down Common Street and finally to the station Benecke said Weeks told Benecke that Benoit kept shaking her head indicating she going to stop for him and later said she was afraid the police car had been stolen and that the driver was going to harm hen Weeks said the woman also tpld him the streets were too dark for her to step safely out of her car Smithfield ire Department Morrow was driving a tow truck on Beech Hill Road on his way to a pall just before 2 pm when he saw the smoke and investigated Morrow found the whole house ablaze Morrow raced four miles down the road to the Smithfield station called 911 grabbed two other fire fighters and raced back to fight the flames that engulfed the building Dozens of firefighters frpm Smithfield Norridgewock Belgrade and Rome fought the blaze The house is located about three miles from US Route 2 and aSout three miles
